On Thursday, the crew of Indiegogo-funded Super Troopers 2 announced that the highly anticipated film is once again back into its production stage.
Back in spring 2015, production studio Broken Lizard announced the sequel just 14 years after the first film’s release at the 2001 Sundance Festival. The crew revealed that the movie would only be made IF the Indiegogo campaign completely raised $2 million. Within a matter of hours, the project captured $1.3 million and then on day two was completely funded. By the end of its time on the global crowdfunding platform, the initiative secured $4,560,065. The film will star Jay Chandrasekhar (starring and directing), Paul Soter, Steve Lemme, Erik Stolhanske, and Kevin Heffernan.
In the latest update, Stolhanske (aka “Mink”) revealed:
“We’ve already shot some great stuff, but are officially moving forward in just a few short weeks to finish this mo-fo. Personally, I cannot wait to put the uniform back on! Or, should I say I’m VERY FLIPPIN’ HAPPY (that’s how Lemme thinks we all speak here in MN).”
Stolhanske also noted those who pitched in the funds to be an extra, producer or VIP set guest, need to start making travel plans. He explained that the film’s producers sent an email earlier this week with details. He then commented:
“Also, before we go back to set, I want to say THANKS AGAIN to all of you. You’re the reason we had an amazing Indiegogo campaign and even reached my favorite stretch goal… which allows real live bears to appear with us in ST2. Yep, we’re keeping our promise, and I’m excited to say we’ve already started casting the bears.”
He then added that, despite not reaching $4.75 mark on the Indiegogo campaign, the crew has “borrowed” (he said stole) the extra fund they needed to give fans a “Kickass Chase Scene” in the film. He promises everyone is going to love it.
