Scottish Financial Enterprise Targets Fintech Growth

Edinburgh CastleScottish Financial Enterprise (SFE) is targeting the Fintech sector for future growth. SFE is the representative group for Scotland’s financial services industry. Members are not just big banks but also smaller financial firms. Financial services account for one in every ten jobs in Scotland so it makes sense for the group to be proactive in the emerging sectors of finance.

Graeme Jones, CEO of SFE, was quoted on the pages of CityAM;

“The new strategy group will map out a five-year plan for fintech in Scotland to ensure we keep ahead of the game in this fast-paced environment. There are lots of things to consider. We must be alert to potential challenges but also quick to respond to the opportunities such new, innovative developments bring. This is an exciting time to bring people together in fintech. I am looking forward to working with the group to take advantage of our close links and historic strengths and make the most of the opportunities fintech brings.”

SFE has created a leadership team, SFE Fintech Strategy Group, of around 30 individuals to help guide the initiative. Jones called it “an exciting time” as they seek to leverage their traditional strength in financial services.

As Brexit aftershocks continue to reverberate around the UK, most profoundly in London, it is a good move to create some independent leadership in Edinburgh.

The SFE Fintech Strategy Group will meet next on September 22nd. The session will be led by Jones and Chair of the SFE FSG, Louise Smith, Head of Design, Personal & Business Banking Services, RBS, where an update on progress will be presented.
