Modobag‘s self-titled motorized bag is officially happening. With less than twelve hours until its Indiegogo campaign comes to an end, the suitcase has successfully captured nearly $309,000 from over 300 backers. The Chicago startup launched its initiative on the global crowdfunding platform last month to raise a minimum of $50,000 and within a matter of days, the project surpassed its initial goal. The suitcase became so popular on Indiegogo that the funding portal’s team actually tested it out.
The bag has GPRS-GSM tracking and a USB charging port that will also keep other devices charged and ready for an upcoming flight. The bag weighs only 19 pounds and the max rider can weigh 260 pounds. The battery can reach 80% charge in 15 minutes and fully charged in less than an hour. The suitcase’s charger can be plugging into any standard U.S. outlet (international outlets may require an adapter). The battery is UN, TSA, FAA and IATA approved.
Kevin O’Donnell, CEO of Modobag, revealed:
“We created Modobag to revolutionize the way people travel and introduce one of the biggest updates to carry-on luggage since rolling suitcases were launched in the 1970’s. With Modobag’s user-friendly, rideable carry-on, anyone from professionals to college students can eliminate their daily stress of commuting by getting to their destination faster, keeping their electronics charged and having fun while they do it.”
The company also released a new video that answers any questions about safety and airport/flight compliance of the suitcase.
“Modobag was created to make your life more convenient, efficient and more fun, so rest assured the bag was painstakingly designed, created and tested with safety, compliance, durability and longevity as the ‘must-haves’ for the Modobag.”
The bag is currently available for the price $1199 and is expected to be delivered to backers this upcoming February.
