Buddy-Watcher Links on Land with Companisto to Provide Freedom and Safety Under the Sea

Buddy-Watcher is closing in on its final week of crowdfunding on Companisto. The startup’s solution makes it possible to communicate more easily under water, providing underwater athletes with more freedom and increased safety. 170 international specialist retailers currently sell Buddy-Watcher, which helped the startup achieved a 300% revenue increase in 2016 over the prior year. Buddy-Watcher has already secured over 119,349€ from more than 338 investors for the 8.45% share offered.

Valued at 3,250,000€, Buddy-Watcher has already taped into the sea of 50 million global underwater athletes and its $8 billion/year sport diving market and $440 million/year for electronic equipment. The team is currently in the middle of a road show, having hit Munich, Zurich and Pforzheim this past week.  During the next month the following dates are planned according to a recent update:

  • Monday, 30.01.2017: Lemon Lounge; Am Wall 164 in 28195 Bremen
  • Tuesday, 31.01.2017: Kopiba; Beim Grünen Jäger 24 in 20359 Hamburg
  • Wednesday, 01.02.2017: St. Oberholz; Rosenthaler Str. 72A in 10437 Berlin
  • Thursday, 02.02.2017: barhundert; Stiftstraße 34 in 60313 Frankfurt am Main
  • Friday, 03.02.2017: Cube; Kleiner Schloßplatz 1 in 70173 Stuttgart

In its frequent updates, Buddy-Watcher has answered questions from the Companisto crowd regarding its product.  Buddy-Watcher’s current system is deployable with up to 20 different pairs (40 devices). In order to minimize the complexity of production, this number is currently limited by the total amount of issued IP addresses. These parameters can be adjusted at any time.

With regard to the distance of the Buddy-Watchers — 80m —  the campaign answered that generally divers should make sure to not stray too far away from one another. Divers should always maintain a distance that allows them to stay within reach of their diving partner or provide assistance to them should the need arise. This is why a distance of 80m was devised for free divers; for this discipline, it isn’t uncommon for divers to become separated by large distances within a short period of time. In 2017, a Boat Unit is going to be introduced that will enable diver-to-boat communication that has a reach of 400-500m which enables entire diving groups to be called back to the boat should swells become too intense.

Co-founded and Invented by CEO Michael Feicht, a mechanical engineer, and CFO Eduard Sabelfeld, an industrial engineer, Buddy-Watcher’s patent features multiple claims including a special vibration coupling located on the forearm/upper arm which is achieved through the vibration motor’s positioning and the Buddy-Watcher’s unique buckle shape for ease of wear. Additional patent claims are vibration signal, distance alarm, emergency signal / panic button, navigation with direction display.
