Tokyo Metropolitan Government Set to Invite Foreign Companies to Fintech Business Camp Event

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG) announced on Friday it is set to invite foreign companies to participate in the upcoming FinTech Business Camp Tokyo event. It was revealed:

TMG is preparing a new plan which can be termed the ‘Financial System Reform in Tokyo — Tokyo’s Big Bang’ in order to regain the status of Asia’s No.1 international financial city, and this new plan will be announced this autumn. Prior to the announcement of the new plan, TMG made public its summary titled ‘Interim Report on Policy for Global Financial City Tokyo’ on June 9. In this Report, TMG announced the launch of a new initiative to develop FinTech business, and the initiatives to support the establishment or development of innovative businesses.”

According to the TMG, the three-month program is looking for foreign companies with advanced fintech technologies and business models, which will include payments, financing, fund management, asset management, insurance, security, etc. The companies must not have been established in Japan yet.

Submission deadline for the program is July 14th. In August, TMG will then select and announce five foreign companies that will be participating and then in the fall implement mentoring, a compilation of a business plan, networking events, and business matchings.
