BrewDog Breaks Ground For Indiegogo-Funded Craft Beer Hotel & Sour Beer Facility

Just six months after closing its Indiegogo campaign for the DogHouse hotel and sour beer facility, BrewDog announced it has broken ground for the two projects. The funding round secured $324,072 from 2158 backers for the buildings, which will be located at the brewery’s Ohio site. The brewery confirmed that instead of gold shovels and hard hats, it began construction with an explosion – literally blowing a hole in the ground where the hotel will be built.

As previously reported, BrewDog stated the DogHouse is the first crowdfunded craft beer hotel and will be attached to the sour beer facility. This new hotel will feature include beer-themed rooms, punk jacuzzi, shower beer fridges, a spa that will have malted barley messages and hop face masks. The BrewDog team stated:

We want to create the top craft beer destination on the planet. Our brewery in Ellon, Scotland has become a destination for craft beer fans across Europe, and we want to build an even more amazing beer destination stateside. With The DogHouse focused on amazing craft beer from BrewDog and our favourite breweries worldwide, we’re creating the ideal environment in which to immerse yourself in the ultimate beery weekend.”

While sharing details about the hotel and sour beer facility’s construction, BrewDog USA CEO, Tanisha Robinson, stated:

“‘We blow shit up’ is my favorite part of BrewDog’s charter; it’s a directive for us to constantly challenge ourselves in how we think about our business. But in this case, it only made sense to take it literally. The DogHouse is already a hotel and sour beer facility like no-other thanks to our Indiegogo backers and Equity Punks, so it deserved an explosive start to construction. We’re super excited for it to launch it in 2018.”

BrewDog co-founder and CEO, James Watt, added:

“This is a hotel for punks, by punks. Our Equity Punks and Indiegogo backers went above and beyond with their investments and ideas for The DogHouse, so we wanted to do the same to kick-off construction. We can’t wait to see a sold-out hotel full of craft beer lovers.”

The DogHouse is scheduled for completion in Summer 2018 and the sour beer facility will begin brewing in late 2018. Meanwhile, the brewery has returned to the UK with a securities offer following the end of its U.S. Reg A+ crowdfunding round.

To date, BrewDog has raised around £41 million in its four prior crowdfunding rounds, enlisting over 53,000 shareholders making it one of the most successful investment crowdfunding offers of all time. Equity for Punks V seeks a minimum £10 million raise at a per share price of £23.75 (minimum purchase of 2 shares). The crowdfunding cap stands at £50 million.
