Coinbase, a leading digital asset marketplace, has become the “first pure-play crypto company to be approved as a Visa principal member,” according to a blog post.
By becoming a principal member, Coinbase will be able to offer additional services. Principal members may also act as an issuing bank and be able to provide transaction processing services or, perhaps issue cards.
Coinbase first issued a Visa debit card in 2019. The card is now available in 29 different markets and holders may spend using 10 different cryptocurrencies.
Coinbase said the announcement is part of its ongoing mission of mainstreaming crypto adoption.
