Web3 Fight: Jack Dorsey Blocked by Marc Andreessen on Twitter

Talk to the hand.

Marc Andreessen has blocked Jack Dorsey on Twitter, perhaps a first for Dorsey who shared the screenshot on the social network he founded.

The virtual joust came about due to Dorsey’s criticism of Web3 – a buzzy sector of blockchain that namesake VC Andreessen Horowitz has been funding of late.

Dorsey, who raised money from VCs back in the day, said the VCs are part of the problem, not the people.

Web3 is being pitched as empowering the users as owning the network – as opposed to big tech firms, etc. Dorsey went on to throw shade at Andreessen noting that Block (formerly dba Square) had help from VCs but “ones that know their place.” Dorsey said he has “learned from the issues taking on VCs creates.”

Dorsey has criticized Web3 as being owned by VCs and their LPs adding that “it will never escape their incentives. It’s ultimately a centralized entity with a different label.” Ouch.

So is this just another day in the battle of the billionaires? Probably. Early-stage ventures need growth capital, frequently from VCs or individuals willing to shoulder the substantial risk.  Startups do not always have the option of telling big money to effoff. Dorsey has enough money to do whatever he wants. Same with Horowitz.
