GMO Internet Teams Up With Unstoppable Domains to Enter NFT Domain Space

Unstoppable Domains is pleased to announce their partnership with GMO Internet Group, which operates Japan’s largest domain registration service, Onamae.com, “with more than 28 million domain registration records.”

Via this partnership, GMO Internet has “launched a brand new registration service, ‘CryptoName by GMO,’ offering NFT domains powered by Unstoppable.”

This reportedly makes GMO ‘the first-ever Japanese registrar to provide NFT domains.”

This is considered to be a major milestone for Web3 and the NFT domain industry – “it’s [their] first partnership with a traditional domain registrar, and shows how Web2 and Web3 are converging.”

As noted in the update, Unstoppable Domains “envision a future where every person on the planet – and every company – owns their identity on Web3.”

To help get there, they’re “giving traditional registrars like GMO Internet a simple, secure, and easy way to start a web3 offering within their platform and increase visibility.’

They’re looking forward to expanding this ecosystem “alongside the traditional registrar community.”

Tadashi Ito, Executive Vice President at GMO Internet, said:

“Together with Unstoppable, we’re giving our 12 million users a simple, secure and intuitive way to get started on their Web3 journey. We’re happy to be part of the future of the Internet and to expand our offerings through our Unstoppable partnership.”

Sandy Carter, SVP and Channel Chief at Unstoppable Domains, remarked:

“Traditional registrars have expressed interest in getting into Web3, but before Unstoppable, offering NFT domains was a challenge. Our technology can help Web2 registrars across the globe expand their product offerings and onboard users to Web3.”

By increasing adoption of NFT domains in Japan, their partnership “will fuel the international growth of user-owned digital id entity.”

With NFT domains, people can “log into more than 150 Web3 applications, replace lengthy crypto wallet addresses on more than 80 wallets and exchanges, create decentralized websites, and build their digital identity.”

GMO Internet has “provided the domain registration service Onamae.com since 1999, with over 28 million registered domains today.”

They first “entered the blockchain industry in 2015, when they began mining crypto assets.”

The GMO Internet Group also “established ‘GMO Web3 Co., Ltd’ to support domestic Web3 efforts.”
