On the same day the House Subcommittee on Digital Assets and Fintech meets, the Subcommittee on Capital Markets is convening to address the pressing need to improve access to capital and investment opportunity.
Chaired by Representative Ann Wagner, the Subcommittee’s mission is to pursue policies that strengthen access to capital formation while overseeing the Securities and Exchange Commission’s regulatory agenda. The hearing is entitled, A Roadmap for Growth: Reforms to Encourage Capital Formation and Investment Opportunities for All Americans.
While the hearing memo has yet to be posted, topics such as improving the exempt offering ecosystem should be addressed, as well as items like broadening the definition of an accredited investor to allow more Americans access to these securities offerings. Many of these topics have been addressed by the House in the past, but with Republicans in control of the Committee, there is a greater chance that legislation moves forward that supports entrepreneurs and small businesses.
Smaller firms and innovative startups are the heart of the US economy, creating prosperity and jobs for all. In the past couple of years, policy that is supportive of small businesses has fallen by the wayside. It will be interesting to see the affiliated legislation that emerges at this hearing.
The Subcommittee will meet on April 19, 2023, at 2 PM. The hearing will be live-streamed on the Committee’s website.
