The House Financial Services Committee has added several new hearings to the October calendar. As was previously reported, the Committed has already scheduled several hearings, even while the House is missing a Speaker, and the Committee Chair, Patrick McHenry, may end up as Speaker Pro-Tem.
On October 25, 2023, at 10 AM ET, the Subcommittee on Digital Assets, Financial Technology and Inclusion will meet to discuss, “Modernizing Financial Services Through Innovation and Competition.”
The same day, at 2 PM ET, the National Security, Illicit Finance, and International Financial Institutions Subcommittee will hold a hearing entitled: “How America and Its Allies Can Stop Hamas, Hezbollah, and Iran from Evading Sanctions and Financing Terror.”
Recently, there has been a fair amount of discussion on Hamas utilizing crypto to help finance its terrorist actions. AML/KYC issues have been a hot topic for years in the ongoing cat-and-mouse game of nefarious activity and funding crimes.
Both hearings should be of interest to the digital asset and Fintech community.
Additional hearing information and scheduled witnesses are not yet available. All Committee hearings are live-streamed on the Committee website.
