WorldCoin Update: World ID Verifications Now Available in Singapore via the Orb

After the launch of World ID 2.0 and the open sourcing of the Worldcoin iris recognition pipeline in mid December, World ID verifications are now “available in Singapore via the Orb, the project’s custom hardware device.”

A full list of verification locations is available on the Worldcoin Orb locations page.

In addition to World ID verifications, project contributor Tools for Humanity (TFH) has become “a member of two of Singapore’s most respected startup and tech associations: ACCESS and the Singapore Fintech Association (SFA).”

The project launch and association memberships “come in the wake of a recent multi-city tour in Asia made by members of the TFH product development team.”

Market expansions in Asia, Europe and South America

Beyond Singapore, access to World ID verifications has been steadily increasing “in countries around the world over the past month.”

Last week, Sevilla and Bilbao joined “a growing list of cities across Spain from Malaga to Mallorca to Madrid offering World ID verifications. Meanwhile, new launches in Cologne and Leipzig have brought Germany’s list of cities with Orb locations to four (including Berlin and Nuremberg).”

In South America, access to World ID verifications in Chile “has recently expanded to Concepcion, Curico and Viña del Mar (joining Santiago), and Argentina just set a new national record with over 10K verifications in a single day. Across the Pacific in Japan, the city of Fukuoka on Kyushu Island joins new locations in Tokyo available for proof of personhood verification via World ID.”

First World ID-compatible wallet passes 5M downloads, 1.7M MAUs

As World ID verification locations increase, “the first World ID-compatible wallet (World App) recently passed several new milestones of its own.”

According to TFH who “developed and maintain World App for the Worldcoin project, over 5 million accounts have now been created—enough to rank it as the 5th most popular hot wallet in the world in 2023 alongside Bitcoin.com wallet,” according to CoinGecko.

In addition to downloads, World App monthly active users “have climbed to 1.7 million, and total transactions on the app are now more than 30 million.”

A landmark year for the Worldcoin project

As December draws to a close, it’s helpful “to take a look back at some of the watershed moments that have helped make 2023 a landmark year both for the Worldcoin project and, more importantly, for the millions of people who have joined the movement to help increase global access to digital identity and finance.”
