House Financial Services Committee Schedules Hearing on Crypto Crime

The Digital Assets, Financial Technology and Inclusion Subcommittee, part of the House Financial Services Committee, has scheduled a hearing entitled, “Crypto Crime in Context Part II: Examining Approaches to Combat Illicit Activity.”

The hearing is scheduled for Thursday, February 15, 2024, at 2 PM ET.

Last November, the Subcommittee held part I of the topic. This hearing addressed hot-button items like AML/KYC, the estimated levels of criminal activity involving digital assets, and how law enforcement addresses these issues and concerns. The hearing also discussed the immutable characteristics of blockchain and how transactions on most blockchains are rather transparent.

As for this forthcoming hearing, the list of witnesses and hearing memo are not yet available.

As for the last hearing, you may review the hearing memo here.

On the same day, the Financial Institutions and Monetary Policy Subcommittee will hold a hearing entitled: “Lender of Last Resort: Issues with the Fed Discount Window and Emergency Lending.”

This will take place at 10 AM ET.

Both hearings will be live-streamed to the public on the Committee’s website.
