The Subcommittee on Digital Assets, Financial Technology, and Inclusion, part of the House Financial Services Committee, has scheduled a hearing to review the tokenization of real-world assets (RWA). Typically, this entails utilizing blockchain (or DLT) technology to turn assets into digital assets. While traditional securities may be the most obvious opportunity, many observers see a future where novel assets will benefit from the tokenization process. By tokenizing an asset, intrinsic frictions can be removed, streamlining the issuance, management and trading of these digital assets. At the same time, smart contract abilities can generate additional value for all sides of the equation.
The hearing entitled “Next Generation Infrastructure: How Tokenization of Real-World Assets Will Facilitate Efficient Markets” does not yet include additional information on the participants testifying in front to the committee. As the topic is hot in the securities world, the financial services industry can expect to be very interested.
The hearing will take place on Wednesday, June 5, at 9 AM ET and will be live-streamed on the Committee website.
