Tokenization: House Financial Services Committee to Discuss Digital Securities

The House Financial Services Committee, Subcommittee on Digital Assets, Fintech and AI, has scheduled a hearing for April 9, 2025, to discuss tokenization or digital securities.

The hearing is entitled: American Innovation and the Future of Digital Assets: Aligning the US Securities Laws for the Digital Age.

While the SEC and other policymakers sort through new rules for crypto assets that are not securities, the application of existing securities law for digital securities is a bit more clear-cut. Sometimes. It is broadly accepted that eventually all securities will be digital as they move beyond their analog past.

Tokenization frequently refers to digital assets, which are securities. By converting securities into digital securities, both issuers and holders may benefit from a more streamlined and less costly management process, including smart contracts. Additionally, the technology may foster a new generation of novel assets that may emerge and be made available to the broader investing public.
