Tokenization or digital securities may represent the most significant opportunity for distributed ledger technology and the financial services sector. While largely overshadowed by crypto that exists outside the securities realm, regulated digital assets that represent equity, debt, or another type of investment could be a boon for investors and issuers alike.
The SEC’s Crypto Task Force will hold its next meeting next week, on May 12th, to discuss tokenization.
Commissioner Hester Peirce, the leader of the Crypto Task Force, says tokenization could substantially change many aspects of our financial markets.
“I look forward to hearing ideas from our panelists on how the SEC should approach this area.”
Peirce has previously stated that she believes all securities will eventually be digital.
The agenda, shared below, indicates the participation of industry insiders such as Nasdaq, Robinhood, Securitize, DTCC, and more.
The event will be live-streamed on the SEC’s website starting at 1PM ET.
