Typically, early-stage private firms are the realm of venture capitalists and the very wealthy. While there are multiple trading platforms where accredited investors may purchase these private shares, Republic is taking the concept further.
Announced at the end of June, Republic revealed its first entry into the tokenized private securities market. The first offering was rSpaceX, a digital asset that matches shares in SpaceX, the leading private space venture that also offers satellite internet access.
This past week, Republic announced several more tokenized securities available for investors. These “mirror tokens” are tied to the value of shares in the firm. Although you are not investing directly in these companies, their performance reflects the rise or fall in value of their shares. The securities are issued under Reg CF.
The new offerings include.
- rOpenAI mirrors the performance of the creator of ChatGPT.
- rAnthropic reflects the leader in the enterprise AI space whose Claude models are at the forefront of agentic coding.
- rEpicGames reflects the performance of the company behind Fortnite and the Unreal Engine.
Currently, Republic is accepting indications of interest for these securities.
Secondary trading in private securities has emerged as a hot sector for online investment platforms that provide access to capital. By leveraging a tech stack for primary offerings, platforms like Republic can tap into the demand for private securities. As we all know, the number of public securities continues to decline due to overly aggressive regulation, which compels firms to stay private for as long as possible. This can also mean that a good percentage of any capital gain is captured while the shares are private. Republic is pushing back on this with “$50 minimums, no accreditation required, available to investors worldwide.”
