Crypto Legislation Hits Speed Bump in the House as Some Republicans Vote Against Procedural Measure

The package of crypto bills sitting in the House of Representatives hit a speed bump today as multiple Republicans voted against a procedural measure to advance the legislation.

A Resolution (HR 580) which impacted the CLARITY Act (HR 3633), the GENIUS Act (S 1582), the Anti-CBDC Surveillance State Act (HR 1919) and the Department of Defense Appropriations Bill (HR 4016) failed to pass as 196 members voted for, and 223 voted agains the resolution.  13 members were not present for the vote.

All Democrats voted against the Resolution, and 13 Republicans joined their rivals in defeating it.

As of 236 PM, the House was in recess.

It was not immediately clear why the Resolution failed, but it was most likely due to some last-minute horse-trading by the defecting Republicans.

CNBC is reporting that another vote could happen today.

Following the unexpected vote, shares of many crypto-affiliated firms sank in disappointment.
