BNPL Fintech Klarna (NYSE:KLAR), which operates a global digital banking and payments company, has joined forces with Bolt, a European shared mobility provider. This collaboration integrates Klarna’s flexible payment solutions straight into the Bolt mobile app, enabling users in Sweden, Germany, Finland, and Norway to settle fares for rideshares and electric scooters using Klarna. In Germany, the option also extends to vehicle rentals.
The new setup relies on secure tokenized payment technology, which lets riders store their payment information once and complete transactions smoothly on future trips without repeatedly entering card details.
Customers in these four countries now have the choice to cover the full amount upfront or spread costs over time through Klarna’s monthly installment plans.
The phased launch has already begun, with complete availability anticipated across all targeted regions by the close of June 2026.
This alliance unites two European consumer platforms.
Bolt reaches more than 200 million users in over 50 countries, operating in hundreds of cities with services spanning ride-hailing, scooter and e-bike sharing, and car rentals.
Klarna, meanwhile, boasts over 119 million active customers globally.
For the payments firm, the partnership strengthens its footprint in routine, frequent urban expenditures—positioning its services at key decision points in city life, complementing its established roles in retail and travel sectors.
Björn Bryngelson, Klarna’s Head of Nordics, said:
“Bolt serves as the daily go-to for millions deciding on transportation in our key markets, making it the ideal spot for Klarna to embed itself. We’re embedding our services into the fabric of ordinary routines, and urban movement ranks among the most common of them.”
Kaspar Loog, Bolt’s Commerce and Payments Group Product Manager, said:
“From heading to the office and social gatherings to connecting with public transit, Bolt facilitates countless daily journeys. Making payment for these trips effortless is essential. Introducing Klarna provides users with yet another straightforward method to handle costs for their most regular transport needs.”
The partnership underscores a broader trend toward frictionless, adaptable payment experiences in mobility services.
By offering both immediate full payments and flexible monthly options, Klarna aims to cater to diverse financial preferences while supporting Bolt’s goal of promoting shared mobility over personal vehicle ownership.
This integration not only enhances user convenience but also aligns with efforts to make sustainable urban transport more accessible and budget-friendly.
Bolt operates across more than 850 cities worldwide, empowering over 4.5 million drivers and focusing on alternatives to car ownership for various travel scenarios.
Klarna, known for its AI-driven payments network, processes millions of transactions daily and partners with numerous major retailers and platforms.
The Fintech company continues expanding its presence to be available for virtually any purchase, whether online, in physical stores, or via digital wallets.
As cities grow denser and consumers seek smarter ways to manage daily expenses, collaborations like this one between Klarna and Bolt could redefine how everyday consumers actually pay for essential movements, blending reliability with financial flexibility. The full rollout by month’s end is expected to deliver noticeable improvements in checkout speed and user satisfaction for urban travelers in Northern and Central Europe.
