Two European fintechs have announced a merger to create a unified, bank-grade platform for identity verification and compliance. The partnership aims to deliver protection across the full customer journey while supporting expansion in key markets worldwide. Fourthline, headquartered in Amsterdam and recognized as a top provider of identity verification and regulatory compliance services in Europe, has agreed to combine with Veridas, a digital identity specialist based in Pamplona, Spain.
The deal, announced on July 16, 2026, brings together complementary strengths to address growing challenges from sophisticated fraud tactics, including AI-generated deepfakes, while navigating complex international regulations.
The merged entity will operate under a single AI-powered framework, blending Fourthline’s robust compliance orchestration—strong in Northern and Central Europe—with Veridas’s advanced biometric, anti-fraud technologies and established presence in Southern Europe, the United States, and Latin America.
Both firms report strong financial health, operating profitably with positive EBITDA, and together anticipate handling approximately 115 million identity checks in 2026 across more than 50 countries.
Their clients span major banks, fintech innovators, telecom operators, and digital platforms.
This strategic union promises a comprehensive suite of tools designed for end-to-end identity management.
Offerings include identity verification, ongoing anti-money laundering (AML) screening, qualified electronic signatures, bank account checks, and advanced biometric authentication.
These capabilities can be integrated modularly through APIs or deployed as a complete solution, allowing organizations to customize according to needs while maintaining high security standards.
Key advantages highlighted include deep regional insights into local identity documents and regulations paired with consistent global compliance infrastructure.
The platform emphasizes scalability for fast-growing digital markets, self-service analytics portals, and support for evolving requirements such as reusable digital identities.
It positions clients to enhance user conversion rates, reduce financial crime risks, and focus on core business growth rather than compliance burdens.
Paul Stoddart, CEO of Fourthline, emphasized the alignment of missions:
“Our focus has always been delivering fast, dependable, and scalable verification without sacrificing reliability for demanding institutions. Partnering extends this across broader geographies, particularly dynamic regions like Latin America, while elevating industry standards worldwide.”
Eduardo Azanza, CEO and co-founder of Veridas, added:
“In an era of accelerating AI-driven threats and regulatory demands, combining our biometric expertise and global experience with strong compliance orchestration creates a powerful trust layer. This enables safer operations for individuals and businesses alike.”
Financial details show Veridas shareholders, including BBVA, retaining stakes post-merger. Funding involves existing investor Finch Capital and new participant Rabo Investments.
The transaction is slated to close in the second half of 2026, subject to standard regulatory approvals.
Integration will proceed gradually to ensure uninterrupted service quality and localized support for current clients.
Founded in 2017, Fourthline serves prominent names such as Revolut, N26, and Rabobank through a single API for consistent global compliance.
Veridas, established the same year as a BBVA joint venture, supports over 350 clients in banking, insurance, telecom, and government sectors across multiple continents with cutting-edge verification tools.
The collaboration arrives amid rising demand for identity solutions driven by fraud proliferation and tightening rules like Europe’s AMLR and MiCA frameworks, plus emerging needs such as age verification on social platforms. By uniting forces, the companies aim to set new benchmarks for secure, efficient digital trust infrastructure.
