Coinbase Rolls Out AI Trading for Stocks: Agentic Finance

Earlier today, Coinbase (NASDAQ:COIN) founder and CEO Brian Armstrong posted on X that AI trading is now rolling out for trading securities. The service was already available for crypto and derivatives. Coinbase had previously announced its intent to enable AI agent trading. Some, like Armstrong, describe it as the beginning of “AiFi,” or agentic finance.

According to the document page, supported AI agents include ChatGPT, Cauld, and Claude Code, with Codex coming soon.

Supported equities include S&P 500 US stocks.

Coinbase states that AI agents can make errors and does not guarantee the accuracy of any action taken by an AI agent.

“You are solely responsible for reviewing and authorizing any trades, transfers, or account changes made through agentic workflows.”

Coinbase is not alone in re-enabling agentic finance; competitors like Robinhood, Public, eToro, Interactive Brokers, and Gemini/Bitget are offering similar services or heading in the same direction.

As these services are in their infancy, usage data is sparse. Some have claimed there are around 500,000 active agents on Coinbase. Robinhood topped 50,000 agentic accounts in the first weeks after the May 27 launch and reportedly exceeded 100,000 by the late-July earnings report.
