Brazilian digital asset platform Mercado Bitcoin has confirmed it will start restoring limited customer access on Monday, November 9, after a security breach that disrupted operations earlier in the week. The first stage will allow users to log in solely through the company’s website in order to review balances, account statements, overall holdings, and investment records.
More active functions will stay offline until later phases.
According to the firm’s update, withdrawals, transfers, and trading will return only after each relevant system module completes independent security validation.
No firm dates have been announced for those subsequent steps.
Company statements indicate that every environment and transaction pathway is being subjected to thorough, separate testing because the platform functions as a single integrated system linking custody, deposits, trading, and balance management.
Simply switching services back on is not considered sufficient; each component must clear verification before it is re-enabled.
Mercado Bitcoin has reiterated that customers will not bear losses from the incident.
It stated that any assets affected and not recovered will be replenished entirely from the company’s own funds, so that balances remain available for use or withdrawal once the corresponding services are restored.
The platform also reported that more than US$15 million in related digital assets has already been blocked with assistance from industry partners, an increase from the roughly US$11.2 million previously identified.
Blocking prevents the assets from being moved or converted by unauthorized parties, though full recovery still requires additional procedures.
The incident itself occurred in the early hours of Monday, November 2, and involved unauthorized transfers from the exchange’s hot wallets—internet-connected wallets used for routine operations. Company updates put the total value of assets involved at approximately US$49.2 million.
The majority of holdings, stored in offline cold wallets, were not affected.
The platform suspended key services as a precaution while it contained the activity, notified authorities, and began tracing the funds.
Mercado Bitcoin continues to investigate the breach and is cooperating with competent authorities.
It has emphasized that customer balances remain recorded on the platform throughout the temporary suspension.
Future updates on the progressive return of services will be issued through official channels.
The company has also reminded users to rely exclusively on those verified channels for any account-related actions and to disregard unsolicited requests for passwords, verification codes, or deposits.
This staged reopening is designed to give users visibility into their accounts as soon as possible while prioritizing additional security checks before restoring the ability to move or trade assets. The approach reflects the interconnected nature of the exchange’s infrastructure and the ongoing effort to limit further risk after the breach.
