WATCH: Baratunde Thurston’s ‘Funded’ Explores Crowdfunding Projects

In May we tipped the start of Baratunde Thurston’s new crowdfunding-centric web series. Called Funded, the series is made up of five minute shorts that explore crowdfunding success stories.

As of today there are five segments available. The five projects outlined are…

  • Ouya: Ouya CEO Julie Uhrman beats Thurston at a video game and talks about the launch of the campaign. (Did you know Ouya was raising $1,000 a second at one point?)
  • Detroit Soup: Detroiters join up in a room, throw $5 in a pot and listen to pitches. The winner takes the pot. It’s crowdfunding, but not in a digital sense.
  • 18 Rabbits: The story of how one person took her recipe for granola from her kitchen to the supermarket with the help of CircleUp.
  • gTar: An interactive guitar with an iPhone dock that senses your finger position and uses LEDs in the fretboard. The founders explain how a launch at TechCrunch Disrupt helped them reach eventual success.
  • ELF: How Organic Transit used Kickstarter to launch a hybrid, solar-powered bike for adults. The team raised over $225,000.
