The UK government is claiming that Amazon is in breach of its “no delay in payments” rule, harming its UK-based vendors.
In the UK, it is recognized that delayed payments to vendors can impact a company’s performance, especially for smaller firms.
The Groceries Code Adjudicator (GCA) has launched a targeted investigation into Amazon’s activities, claiming the transgressions took place from March 2022 to June 20 2025. The GCA states that it is focusing on the period commencing on January 1, 2024.
Adjudicator Mark White stated:
“I decided to launch this targeted investigation based on the range of evidence I have seen from multiple sources. It will allow me to determine whether Amazon has breached paragraph 5 of the Groceries Code and the root cause of any breach.”
White apparently communicated with Amazon, telling them to comply with the code in 2024.
It was not immediately clear what, if any, type of disciplinary action could be taken against the firm.
