Santander Mexico Migrates Tech Infrastructure to Cloud with Gravity

Banco Santander México has completed a major breakthrough in the digital transformation of Mexico’s banking sector by becoming the first systemic bank to migrate the entirety of its technology infrastructure to Gravity, its global, cloud-based platform, to enhance customer experience with “faster flows and new capabilities.”

This is a key step in transitioning towards “an open platform with efficient data management as well as scalability, resilience and capability to monitor transactions.”

It enables us to absorb transactional “growth in Mexico and puts them on equal footing with digital native enterprises that have operated this way since their inception.”

Felipe García Asencio, Country Head of Banco Santander México said that this is a first in Mexico and was only made “possible by the talent of over 1,500 specialists based here as well as in Spain and Chile.”

They are looking to the future with their “own banking technology and are ready to provide the best customer experience to strengthen our digital leadership.”

This full migration to the cloud will enable Santander México to get faster, simpler and more secure access to data on every transaction; cut the time needed to implement new features; and allow for more frequent app updates.

All of this will now aim to improve the “experience, speed and value that the bank offers its customers, who will now enjoy banking services.”

David Chaos, Global Head of Technology and Operations – Retail and Commercial Banking at Santander said that the experience of implementing Gravity in Mexico speaks “to the ability of Santander’s global teams and moves them closer to achieving their aim of becoming the best open financial services platform and the first major bank in the western world to operate fully in the cloud.”

They are now using Gravity in Spain, the US, Chile and Mexico.

After the rollout of Gravity as its banking core, Santander México will process more than “250 billion transactions per year with highs of 38,000 transactions per second, without interruption.”

As Santander’s cloud-based platform, Gravity was reportedly built with the latest features.
