Robinhood (NASDAQ: HOOD) reportedly entered into agreements in order to acquire Indonesian brokerage PT Buana Capital Sekuritas as well as licensed digital asset trader PT Pedagang Aset Kripto. According to the latest announcement, the recent acquisitions will now officially mark Robinhood’s entry into Indonesia, accelerating their ongoing expansion across Southeast Asia and globally.
With currently (reported) more than 19 million capital market investors and 17 million crypto investors, Indonesia is considered to be “a compelling market for equities and crypto trading.”
Patrick Chan, Head of Asia at Robinhood said that Indonesia represents a fast-growing market for trading, making it an suitable “place to further Robinhood’s mission to democratize finance for all.”
Chan added that they now “look forward to bringing Indonesians the same innovative services that have earned the trust of Robinhood customers globally.”
Pieter Tanuri, the majority owner of Buana Capital and PT Pedagang Aset Kripto, will stay on as a “strategic advisor to Robinhood.”
Following the acquisition of Buana Capital, we’ll continue “to serve its brokerage customers with Indonesian financial products.”
Over time, they hope to also offer Robinhood brokerage and crypto trading products and connect Indonesian customers “to US equities, cryptocurrencies, and more at scale.”
Each acquisition is subject to customary “closing conditions, including approval from the Indonesian Financial Services Authority (Otoritas Jasa Keuangan, OJK) and other regulatory approvals, and both are expected to close in the first half of 2026.”
As noted in the update, Robinhood Markets, Inc. transformed financial services by “introducing commission-free stock trading and democratizing access to the markets for millions of investors.”
Currently, Robinhood, via its subsidiaries, lets clients actively trade stocks, options, futures (which includes event contracts), and crypto, invest for retirement, earn with Robinhood Gold, and “access an expert-managed portfolio with Robinhood Strategies.”
Headquartered in Menlo Park, California, Robinhood aims to provide value and products designed for a so-called new generation of investors.
