Stripe has teamed up with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to bring autonomous payment functionality to AWS’s AgentCore platform. The new AgentCore Payments feature, integrated into Amazon Bedrock, equips AI agents with the ability to independently access and settle costs for digital resources—including web content, APIs, MCP servers, and peer agents—using stablecoin wallets.
Privy, acquired by Stripe in mid-2025 and now a key part of its ecosystem, delivers the wallet infrastructure and payment rails for this launch, partnering alongside Coinbase to give developers seamless options for funding via fiat or stablecoins.
Henri Stern, CEO of Privy, emphasized the strategic importance: Stripe is constructing the foundational economic layer for artificial intelligence, recognizing that agents must independently hold and deploy capital to function as true economic participants.
This integration makes stablecoin-enabled wallets immediately accessible to AgentCore builders, embedding programmable spending controls, session limits, and full transaction observability directly into the cloud environment.
The announcement builds directly on Stripe’s aggressive expansion of agent-focused tools. Just weeks earlier, at Stripe Sessions 2026 in late April, the company rolled out 288 new products and updates centered on agentic commerce.
Among the standouts: the Agentic Commerce Suite now extends to Google’s Gemini app and AI Mode, allowing merchants to sell seamlessly inside leading AI interfaces.
Stripe also activated Link wallets for agents—leveraging its 250-million-user consumer wallet—so individuals can securely delegate purchasing authority to AI assistants for tasks like reservations or subscriptions.
Additional enhancements include expanded Stripe Treasury for instant, zero-fee transfers between businesses, AI-native billing models, and support for streaming micropayments that align with high-volume token usage in AI applications.
These moves reflect Stripe’s broader vision of payments infrastructure purpose-built for an AI-driven economy. Earlier partnerships with OpenAI, Microsoft, and Meta already enable in-app sales within major AI platforms, while stablecoin and crypto capabilities continue to mature.
The cumulative effect of these technologies is reshaping the digital transformation of financial services in fundamental ways.
By enabling agents to transact autonomously at machine speed, solutions like AgentCore Payments and Stripe’s Link wallets eliminate manual approval loops, slash latency, and open entirely new revenue channels for AI-native businesses.
Traditional financial rails—designed for human oversight—are being augmented or replaced by programmable, secure, and observable systems that support microtransactions, real-time settlement, and embedded compliance.
This shift aims for greater operational efficiency, lower costs, and broader inclusion, as developers and enterprises worldwide gain frictionless access to global payment rails within cloud AI workflows.
Yet it also demands heightened focus on fraud prevention, identity verification, and regulatory adaptability. These updates position fintech at the center of the agentic era, transforming static financial services into dynamic, intelligent ecosystems that will drive the next wave of economic growth and reshape how value moves in the digital economy.
