Ondo Finance Unveils Execution Network as Next Evolution of Ondo Chain

Ondo Finance has unveiled a new infrastructure layer known as the Ondo Network, positioning it as the natural progression of its earlier blockchain concept, Ondo Chain. The company describes the network as an execution environment tailored for modern financial markets, delivering the rapid processing and confidentiality associated with traditional centralized platforms while retaining blockchain-style verifiability and allowing users to maintain control of their own assets.

The system is already operational. Its debut application is Ondo Perps, a high-performance perpetual futures venue that went live shortly before the network announcement.

Officials emphasize that the infrastructure is not limited to derivatives.

It is designed as general-purpose technology capable of supporting spot trading, lending products, structured instruments, and other applications that require fast, private, and independently checkable computation.

The shift away from a conventional blockchain stems from lessons learned during the development of Ondo Perps and conversations with clients.

The team concluded that the primary constraint for competitive trading systems is execution rather than settlement.

Traditional blockchains typically combine execution, verification, and final settlement on a single shared ledger.

While this design delivers strong durability and trust, it also introduces latency and forces transparency that can hinder high-frequency or sensitive trading activity.

Ondo Network addresses the issue by separating these functions.

Application logic runs inside secure hardware enclaves, also called trusted execution environments.

These isolated environments process matching, margin calculations, and liquidations at speeds comparable to centralized exchanges and keep the activity private by default.

A decentralized group of attestors cryptographically confirms that only previously reviewed and approved code is running inside each enclave.

The attestors also hold fragmented cryptographic keys so that no single party can alter the software or move user funds unilaterally.

Final asset transfers settle on public blockchains, beginning with Ethereum, with plans to expand support and eventually commit settled state records on-chain for added durability.

This architecture aims to deliver several practical advantages: near-real-time performance without forcing every step through network-wide consensus, default privacy for sensitive order flow and positions, independent verifiability through signed execution logs that third parties can replay, and a non-custodial model in which users retain ownership of their assets.

Future upgrades may include a broader and more open attestor set, external watchers, additional cryptographic proofs, and progressive decentralization measures.

Company leadership frames the Ondo Network not as a replacement that discards prior work, but as a clearer realization of the original goals behind Ondo Chain.

The earlier vision sought infrastructure that would make institutional-grade markets more open and efficient.

By focusing specifically on the execution bottleneck and leveraging specialized hardware together with distributed attestation, the team believes it has produced a more practical solution that still preserves the core benefits of blockchain technology.

The launch underscores Ondo’s broader overall strategy of letting product requirements guide technical choices rather than treating any single technology as an end in itself. As the network matures and attracts more participants, the distinction between this specialized execution layer and a traditional blockchain may continue to blur, potentially expanding the range of financial applications that can operate at institutional speed while remaining transparent and user-controlled.
