Fintech Firm Navi Reports $100 Million Investment from Prosus

Bengaluru-based fintech company Navi has secured a $100 million investment from Dutch technology investor Prosus, marking the firm’s first raise of external institutional capital.

The deal, announced on August 19, 2026, involves MIH Payments Holdings BV, an indirect wholly owned subsidiary of Prosus, and remains subject to standard closing conditions plus regulatory clearances, including approval from India’s Competition Commission of India.

Navi, founded in 2018 by Flipkart co-founder Sachin Bansal after his departure from the e-commerce firm following its acquisition by Walmart, has operated largely on founder capital until now.

The platform delivers a suite of digital financial services spanning payments via UPI, lending through its NBFC arm Navi Finserv, insurance, and mutual funds. Reports indicate the investment values the company at approximately $1.3 billion.

This capital infusion arrives as Navi prepares for a potential public listing.

The firm had earlier filed for an IPO in 2022 aiming to raise a larger sum but later withdrew amid challenging market conditions.

Current plans point toward raising around ₹3,000 crore (roughly $314–315 million) in a fresh offering, with the company having engaged investment banks for advisory support.

Some accounts suggest a target IPO valuation near $2 billion.

Operationally, Navi has shown solid momentum.

Its UPI application maintained ranking as India’s fourth-largest by volume through fiscal year 2026. Navi Finserv’s assets under management surpassed ₹130 billion (about $1.4 billion).

The group also reported consolidated profitability in the fourth quarter of FY26, highlighting improving unit economics and operating leverage across its businesses.

The company serves users nationwide.Sachin Bansal, founder and executive chairman of Navi Group, described the partnership as meaningful given his long-standing ties to Naspers and the Prosus Group, which date back more than a decade to the Flipkart era when Naspers was an early backer.

He called Prosus one of the world’s most respected investors with a strong record of supporting category-defining technology companies over extended periods.

“Their investment is a strong endorsement of the institution we’re building at Navi,” Bansal stated.

“Beyond the capital, we value Prosus’s global perspective, long-term orientation and experience in scaling technology businesses.”

From Prosus’s side, Ashutosh Sharma, head of Prosus India Investments and M&A, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration.

He noted that Navi exhibits key attributes the firm seeks: a substantial base of loyal users, multiple business lines on a single platform, a technology-first approach, and strong emphasis on consumer experience.

Sharma also highlighted the team’s effective execution over the past 12 months despite a difficult macroeconomic backdrop and praised Bansal’s alignment with Prosus’s patient, long-term company-building philosophy.

The investment reinforces Prosus’s existing presence in India’s technology and fintech landscape, where it has previously backed companies including Swiggy, Meesho, and PayU.

For Navi, the fresh capital is expected to support the next stage of expansion in payments and lending while strengthening its balance sheet ahead of listing plans. This development underscores maturing dynamics in India’s fintech sector, where select players are transitioning from pure growth focus toward profitability and institutional partnerships as they eye public markets.
