Nubank and Sygnum Partner to Enable Nu Global’s Digital Asset Account

Latin America’s digital bank Nubank (NYSE:NU) has taken another step beyond its home markets. Nu, which already serves more than 140 million customers in Brazil, Mexico and Colombia, has entered a strategic alliance with Swiss digital asset bank Sygnum to support the launch of Nu Global, a new international account aimed at people who move money across borders.

Announced on 10 September 2026 from Zurich, the partnership gives Nu a regulated Swiss backbone for crypto-related features while Sygnum gains a high-profile consumer platform with global reach.

Nu Global is designed as a multi-currency, high-yield account that lets customers send funds quickly and without transfer fees across more than 35 countries.

Deposits can be converted into dollar- and euro-linked stablecoins, USDC and EURC, which the product currently advertises at about 3.50% and 2.20% APY respectively.

A virtual Mastercard is bundled for spending abroad, and clients can also hold and trade a limited set of digital assets, including bitcoin and ether.

Sygnum’s role is infrastructure rather than branding. Its modular B2B banking stack is being wired into Nu Global so the Latin American lender can offer regulated digital-asset access in Switzerland and other international markets without building that stack from scratch.

The Swiss bank will handle conversion between fiat and crypto, trading, stablecoin rails, and institutional-style custody.

Customer assets sit under Sygnum’s Swiss bank guarantee, a point both firms stress as a trust and compliance signal.

Sygnum uses the same platform with partner banks that together reach more than a third of Switzerland’s population, and the Nu deal is presented as evidence that the model can scale beyond domestic partners.

Fritz W. Jost, Sygnum’s chief B2B officer, described Nu’s choice as validation of that wholesale platform.

In his view, the combination pairs Nu’s consumer design and international footprint with Sygnum’s licensed banking setup, custody standards, and digital asset know-how.

The goal, he said, is to expand access to digital assets inside a fully regulated banking environment rather than through unlicensed venues.

Thomaz Lysakowski Fortes, general manager of Nu Global AG, framed the launch as the next chapter in taking Nu’s customer-first style into international money management.

Nu Global AG is a Swiss unit under Nu Holdings, the listed parent of Nubank.

The timing sits alongside a broader expansion.

The same week, Nu said it was beginning US operations through a partner-bank model while it pursues a national bank charter.

Nu Global is a separate track: an account for globally mobile users rather than a replica of the Brazilian retail app.

Early transfer corridors focus on Europe and Latin America, with Brazil, Colombia, Mexico and the United States on the roadmap.

Industry coverage has also noted that Brazil is tightening rules on how regulated payment firms use cross-border crypto rails, making a Swiss-licensed custody and conversion partner commercially useful as Nu builds an international product.

For Sygnum, the announcement fits a pattern of supplying white-label rails to other institutions instead of competing only for its own retail book.

For Nu, it is a way to add yield, stablecoins, and selected crypto trading without abandoning the regulated-bank story it has used to grow in Latin America.

Whether the product becomes a mass-market habit will depend on onboarding, currency corridors, and how clearly customers understand that balances converted into stablecoins are not ordinary bank deposits. For now, the deal is a concrete example of a large consumer digital bank plugging into Swiss digital-asset infrastructure to sell a borderless account.
