Following Revolut’s Data Breach, the Digital Bank is Expected to Pay to Replace Identity Documents

The chief executive of Revolut for Western Europe, Béatrice Cossa-Dumurgier, says the company will cover the cost of replacing identity documents for impacted users of the digital banks. This is according to French broadcaster BFM TV

According to reports, in September, someone controlling an email address on an Italian government domain sent Revolut requests for customer information. Revolut treated them as legitimate official requests and sent data on 680 customers to an illicit user. Revolut reports that its systems were not compromised and that it shut down the address after the fraud.

A group calling itself “iamnotavillain” had publicly demanded about 6,000 Monero, or approximately $3 million. Revolut has indicated it will not pay any ransom.

Cossa-Dumurgier said Revolut will support all affected clients and will cover ID-replacement costs if they have to change passports or similar documents. Biometric facial telemetry was not involved in the hack.

She also said Revolut will not pay a ransom.

Reports indicate that, beyond identity documents and information, no funds have been stolen.

At the end of 2025, Revolut had 68.3 million retail customers and 767,000 business customers. The company said it passed 70 million in January 2026.
