Report States Fintech Funding Cratered in Q3 2026

Fintech funding for private ventures remains robust, but it is not immune to market shifts, especially as dollars compete for the hot artificial intelligence (AI) sector. So far, several reports indicate that global Fintech funding has dropped in 2026, and Crunchbase is now throwing its hat in the ring, saying Fintech funding cratered by 21% in Q3 compared to the year prior.

According to their numbers:

  • Fintech startups raised $10.6 billion globally in Q3, down 28.4% from $14.9 billion in Q2 and 21.4% from $13.5 billion in Q3 2025.
  • Deal count was lower in Q3 – the lowest quarter since 2018
  • In Q2 2026, there were 687, compared to 789 in the previous quarter and 995 in the same quarter the prior year.

The thesis for the decline is that investors want to see traction and growth before they write the next check.

A dearth of larger rounds is not helping, as funding rounds at $100 million and up declined by 43.3%, from $9.07 billion in Q2 to $5.15 billion in Q3.

Unsurprisingly, the US remains the strongest market, capturing 50.5% of the $10.64 billion raised worldwide.

The top markets were as follows:

  • Singapore at $1.28 billion (12.1%)
  • Saudi Arabia at $626.6 million (5.9%)
  • India at $452 million (4.2%)
  • Brazil at $352 million (3.3%)
  • The United Kingdom at $337.8 million (3.2%)

Recently, CI shared S&P Market Intelligence and its review, which delivered a more optimistic report, noting that Fintech startups raised $10.51 billion across 372 rounds year over year during the same quarter. While there were fewer deals, total capital raised rose 25%, with 406 rounds raising $8.38 billion.

CB Insights was more aligned with Crunchbase, reporting $11.0 billion in Fintech deals across about 650 deals. Funding fell 18% quarter-over-quarter, the third consecutive decline. Funding reached its lowest total since Q3 2024. And deal activity hit a multi-year low.
