Strategy ($MSTR), Bitmine ($BMNR), Strive ($ASST) Continue Accumulating Bitcoin and Ethereum Despite Binance Hack

Digital asset treasury companies—public firms that prioritize large holdings of cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Ethereum as core balance-sheet assets—have maintained a steady pace of purchases in recent days, even as markets digested a major exchange security incident and faced structural pressures.

The firms’ continued buying reflects their core strategies of expanding crypto reserves while managing preferred equity structures and capital allocation, despite risks ranging from index-provider scrutiny to longer-term technological and geopolitical uncertainties.

Strategy (NASDAQ: MSTR), the largest corporate Bitcoin holder, disclosed in a November 2 regulatory filing that it acquired 811 Bitcoin between October 26 and November 1 for approximately $65.5 million, at an average price of roughly $80,846 per coin including fees.

This brought its total holdings to 849,327 Bitcoin, acquired for an aggregate of about $64.08 billion at an average cost near $75,451. Over the same period, the company spent $208.2 million repurchasing more than 2 million shares of its STRC preferred stock from cash reserves, a figure more than triple its Bitcoin outlay.

It funded the Bitcoin purchase primarily by selling about 1.18 million shares of common stock through its at-the-market program, generating $164 million in net proceeds, of which a portion also bolstered its cash position.

Executive Chairman Michael Saylor highlighted the dual moves, noting the firm’s substantial Bitcoin stack alongside nearly $5 billion in dollar assets.

The buybacks appear aimed at supporting the preferred shares near their $100 par value while managing dividend obligations.

Bitmine Immersion Technologies (NYSE: BMNR), chaired by Tom Lee, added 8,573 Ethereum during the same week, lifting its holdings to roughly 6.06 million ETH—equivalent to about 4.9 percent of the circulating supply and nearing its stated 5 percent target.

The company reported a combined portfolio of crypto, cash, and related investments valued around $14.5 billion as of early November. Lee addressed the late-October security breach at Binance, which involved the theft of approximately $6.3 billion in customer assets and has been attributed by U.S. authorities to a North Korean-linked group.

He described the incident as a serious setback but pointed to the relatively contained market reaction—Ethereum declined only about 4 percent after disclosure—as a constructive signal of growing industry resilience.

Lee contrasted this with the sharper drop following the 2025 Bybit incident and cited factors including Binance’s capacity to cover losses, the absence of widespread DeFi failures, rapid industry freezing of assets, swift attribution by investigators, the nature of the breach as an infrastructure infiltration rather than a protocol flaw, and the limited price impact itself as evidence of a more mature market environment.

Strive (NASDAQ:ASST) continued its own accumulation, purchasing 124 Bitcoin between late October and early November for about $10 million at an average near $80,526, bringing its treasury to 43,124 BTC.

The firm, which aims to climb the rankings of public corporate holders, has recently expanded its preferred equity options, including the listing of its 15 percent Series A Perpetual SATS preferred stock after an upsized offering.

These instruments provide a financing channel for further Bitcoin purchases and related activities while creating recurring dividend commitments.

Metaplanet, the Tokyo-listed Bitcoin treasury company, focused on capital structure moves: it repurchased roughly 96.45 million of its own shares in October for approximately ¥25.27 billion (around $160 million) under a broader authorization, while redirecting freed-up capital—including early bond repayment proceeds—toward an expanded Bitcoin purchase allocation now set near ¥33.4 billion.

The company continues to hold around 44,000 Bitcoin and has emphasized maximizing Bitcoin per share alongside selective income-generation strategies.

These accumulation efforts occur against a backdrop of notable challenges. MSCI has finalized rules classifying certain non-operating companies as ineligible for its Global Investable Market Indexes, with a final list of affected names expected on November 11 and changes taking effect after the November 30 close.

Earlier simulations flagged Strategy and Metaplanet among potential deletions, which could trigger index-driven selling of their shares even as the companies retain their crypto holdings.

Separately, evolving assessments of quantum computing and AI-assisted cryptanalysis have intensified discussion of long-term risks to elliptic-curve cryptography underpinning Bitcoin and Ethereum.

Recent research estimates have lowered the projected resources needed for potential future attacks on exposed public keys, prompting calls for proactive migration planning, though no current systems pose an immediate threat.

Geopolitical strains linked to the ongoing Iran conflict—including energy-market volatility, sanctions-related capital flows, and regional instability—add layers of macroeconomic uncertainty, compounded by the approach of U.S. midterm elections. Digital asset treasury firms have nonetheless continued prioritizing their respective accumulation and capital-management strategies amid these headwinds.
