Tokenized Equities Show Persistent Premiums and Liquidity Gaps as Midterms Historically Clear the Path for Stock Gains

Tokenized equities have created a continuous trading layer for U.S. stocks that operates well beyond traditional exchange hours. Recent analysis from Coin Metrics’ State of the Network examines how these instruments price relative to their underlying shares and where liquidity thins.

Over the week of October 27 to November 2, spot tokenized equity markets generated more than $2 billion in volume across exchanges, yet this remains modest next to perpetual futures.

Equity perpetuals on Hyperliquid alone produced $12.3 billion in the same period—roughly six times the spot total.

Aggregate market capitalization for tokenized equities has surpassed $3 billion, with major issuers including xStocks, Ondo, and bStocks providing on-chain exposure to names such as Nvidia.

Pricing behavior reveals consistent but modest premiums during regular market hours.

The xStocks version of Nvidia (NVDAx) traded above the underlying NVDA share price in 58.6 percent of open-market hours, averaging a 3.1 basis-point premium in those periods.

Kraken’s NVDAx market, by contrast, averaged a small discount of 0.9 basis points.

Ondo’s NVDAon showed a stronger and more frequent premium, trading above NVDA in 88.9 percent of open hours at an average of 14.1 basis points.

These gaps do not survive trading costs: observed price differences between variants were generally outweighed by spreads and slippage even on $1,000 orders, before fees.

Lead-lag analysis across more than 200 sessions indicates that tokenized prices largely converge with the underlying by the next open; full overnight windows show an R-squared near 0.98 with the subsequent open, while earlier after-hours and overnight segments display weaker correlations.

Liquidity is markedly thinner outside U.S. equity hours.

When markets close, Bybit and MEXC NVDAx books show on average 19 percent less depth within 1 percent of the midprice, while Hyperliquid sheds roughly one-third of its depth in the same band.

Trading activity concentrates around the open and close; NVDAx, for example, averaged $225,000 in volume between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. Eastern on weekdays.

Cross-venue execution quality varies sharply with size.

For $1,000 orders, Bybit and Hyperliquid offered the lowest slippage most frequently.

For $100,000 orders, those two venues were best nearly all of the time.

Among Nvidia variants, Binance’s NVDAb recorded the lowest slippage on $10,000 orders in 96 percent of observations during the sample week. Only whitelisted participants can mint or redeem against the underlying shares, creating asymmetric redemption risk for other holders.

Separately, Anthony Pompliano’s has now outlined an investor playbook for the 2026 midterms as polls closed.

Forecasters largely expected Democrats to take the House (and they did), with the Senate closer: Democrats needed a net gain of four seats and prediction markets assigned them roughly a 74 percent chance.

Seven of the fourteen most contested races were within three points.

Historical midterm polling errors have been smaller and bidirectional compared with presidential cycles, reducing the likelihood of a large 2016-style miss.

Equity markets have risen in the twelve months after every midterm election since World War II, averaging 14.8 percent.

The year following a midterm has historically been the strongest of the cycle, averaging 17.2 percent.

Gains occurred regardless of which party controlled

Congress or whether control was divided.

Under a Republican president with split control, the S&P 500 has averaged 18 percent over the subsequent twelve months and risen 93 percent of the time in longer data sets.

Markets dislike uncertainty, and the election removes one major source.

This cycle is atypical: the S&P 500 experienced only about a 9 percent drawdown earlier in the year (bottoming March 30) and remains up nearly 10 percent year-to-date, versus the more typical midterm-year decline of roughly 17.5 percent.

Some of the usual post-election bounce may already be priced in.

Under the surface, October saw the equal-weight S&P 500 outperform the cap-weighted index by the widest margin since 2009 as investors rotated from technology into energy and consumer staples.

With the Federal Reserve still hiking and the 10-year yield near 5 percent, rates and bond yields are expected to matter more to equities than the precise composition of Congress.

Sector implications still differ by outcome.

A Democratic Congress would likely support extended Affordable Care Act subsidies (aiding certain insurers) while increasing scrutiny of drug prices.

Retailers and importers could benefit from any pressure to ease tariffs, though executive authority remains primary.

A Republican sweep would have potentially revived the possibility of proposed $5,000 stimulus checks, supporting consumer stocks but adding inflation and yield pressure.

The Senate’s role in confirming regulators and shaping crypto market structure legislation makes the chamber particularly relevant for banks and digital assets.

The practical advice was to actually avoid trading the initial headline reaction, monitor the Fed and yields closely, and track the ongoing rotation beneath the index.

The updates highlight parallel themes of market structure: continuous but imperfect pricing and liquidity in tokenized equities, and the historical tendency of traditional equities to advance once electoral uncertainty clears—even when the policy backdrop remains complex.
