US Treasury Shares Panelist Names from Today’s Marketplace Lending Forum but Little Else

US Department of Treasury Washington DCThe US Department of Treasury held a discussion today regarding the fast growing Marketplace Lending industry.  Treasury released a brief statement regarding the event highlighting the panelists which included:

  • Michael Barr, University of Michigan Law School
  • William Black, Moody’s Investors Services
  • Nick Bourke, Pew Charitable Trust
  • Rajeev Date, Fenway Summer

The Treasury’s office of Financial Institutions was the host with Counselor to the Secretary Antonio Weiss and Acting Assistant Secretary for Financial Institutions Amias Gerety participating in the event.  The gathering was organized in conjunction with a Request for Information revealed last month.

According to Treasury, approximately 80 representatives from the direct lending industry participated alongside consumer advocates, non-profit public policy organizations and other financial services firms.

Treasury stated they are “interested in learning more about the business models and product offerings of online marketplace lenders; the potential for online marketplace lending to expand access to credit to historically underserved market segments; and how the financial regulatory framework should evolve to support the safe growth of this industry”.

Treasury encouraged attendees to submit comments to the RFI.
