The creators of the Kickstarter-funded video game, Mighty No. 9, announced on Thursday they released the Mac and Linux versions of the game. This announcement comes just a little over two months after the game was delivered to North American and Asian backers via PS4, Xbox One, and PC. The team revealed that both Mac and Linux versions are now available on Steam.
Mighty No. 9 debuted on the crowdfunding giant’s platform back in summer 2013 and secured over $3.8 million from 62,000 backers. The game was created by Keiji Inafune, who is known for his work on Mega Man. It takes place in the year 2099 where humans have become dependent on robots not just for manual labor but also entertainment. The most powerful robots in the world fight in front of humans in a popular league called the Battle Colosseum.
Following its initial release, the game was met with criticism after failing to meet expectations and issues some backers were experiencing. Those who were struggling to get the game to work flooded the Kickstarter page revealing that they hadn’t received the codes, or the codes weren’t working at all. The Mighty No. 9 team stated for some platforms there is a bit of time lag between the release of the game in store, and the time when the codes become effective. If it didn’t work right away, to try again later.
After announcing the Mac and Linux release, Mighty No. 9’s team stated they were uploading the DRM-free versions to Humble Bundle as soon as they are ready for a quick round of testing. The crew stated they were sorry for yet another delay.
