Australia Publishes Roadmap for Blockchain Standards (Document)

Standards Australia has published a roadmap for Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) commonly called Blockchain. Dr. Bronwyn Evans, CEO of Standards Australia, said that Blockchain has the potential to support efficient and secure real-time transactions across a number of sectors, including financial services. She described Australia as playing a leading international role in the development of blockchain. Evans described the report as being indicative of Australia’s ability to deliver policy related to matters of contemporary importance that support the Australian economy.

The Blockchain report provides a summary of the Roadmap designed to identify the various technical issues associated with developing, governing and utilising blockchains and DLT. It also seeks to identify blockchain and DLT use-cases relevant to Australia and prioritise the order of standards development activities that could be undertaken in the development of Blockchain standards.

The report was the outcome of several consultations held in 2016 and 2017. Australia will host the first international Blockchain standards meeting for ISO/TC 307 in April 2017. Today there are 33 member nations including: Germany, United Kingdom, Japan, Russia, France, Singapore, China, USA and many others.
