Earlier this week, Canadian audio technology company Mass Fidelity returned to global crowdfunding platform Indiegogo to raise $50,000 for its new wireless multi-room speaker system, raD. Within a matter of days, the project not only secured its initial funding target, but it has also since captured more than $100,000 from over 500 backers. The company previously raised $1 million through Indiegogo for its Core Wireless Speaker.

rad-2Mass Fidelity revealed that the raD, which is named for its use of Radial Dispersion technology, is considered ideal for outdoor and unconventional listening environments, such as kitchens and bathrooms. It has a ruggedized, compact design that is IPX5 rated for water and shock resistance, for use where direct exposure to the elements (such as heat and water) is routine. Sharing details about the new project, Bob Perry, Chief Revenue Officer, Mass Fidelity, explained

“From the time we launched our campaign for the Core and Core Subwoofer, we’ve been incredibly happy with the response that we’ve received from our customers. After using these products, many have also requested a smaller, more ruggedized version to expand the Core network to outdoors, kitchens and bathrooms. So in response, we’ve developed the raD with its radial sound field and ruggedized design to meet and hopefully exceed these expectations.”

The raD features a five-speaker array, with four 1.5” drivers and a single 3” bass driver, each powered by a high-output amplifier which delivers a frequency response of 75Hz to 20KHz, in a compact (5”x 4.75”x 3”) form factor one-third smaller than that of the Core. Connecting the raD with the Core Wireless Subwoofer extends the bass performance to bone shaking levels, while the AACand AptX codecs aims to ensure the highest quality music. The company also noted:

zc1okxnt7ttgrhyt41bz“We designed the raD and the Core speakers to play together. In fact, you can create a whole-house system using a mix of raD and Core speakers (up to 8 units). Add a Core Sub. No wires, Wi-Fi or manufacturer’s apps are needed and it all happens through a simple One-Button Connect. Just like the Core, the raD works on its own uncompressed high-bandwidth network. Each speaker can play a local source or you can have all speakers playing from a central unit. Whichever way you play it, your music comes across loud, clean and clear.”

Starting price for raD Wireless Speaker is currently $169. Estimated arrival for the speaker is April 2017. The campaign is set to close in December. Perry went on to add:

“With our second crowdfunding campaign, we are doing everything in our power to ship product to all of our backers on time, if not early. With our three current offerings, we pride ourselves on the quick turnaround to ship products to customers as well as a high level of customer satisfaction and we certainly want that to continue with the launch of the raD.”
