Oregon Sen. Jeff Merkley and a Democratic colleague want the Securities & Exchange Commission to swiftly issue rules regarding crowdfunding activities.
Merkley, who’s taken a keen interest in crowdfunding, and Colorado’s Michael Bennet wrote SEC Chairwoman Mary Schapiro to request that the agencyinterpret crowdfunding rules, which President Obama signed on April 5. Crowdfunding essentially allows businesses to use the Internet to gather investments without facing certain stringent SEC funding rules.
Merkley and Bennet were lead sponsors ofthe CROWDFUND Act.
