Product launches on Kickstarter are the best, aren’t they? It is amazing to see the things people come up with. The following two campaigns on Kickstarter live up to this and then some. They’ll blow your mind!
Mycestro, The Next Generation 3D Mouse
Ah, the ubiquitous computer mouse. It has served society well for many years and has remained largely unchanged in design. The mouse you’re using now may be very similar to one you used in the 1990’s. Engineers have long sought to improve upon it’s design. 10GUI and Apple’s Magic Mouse are just two examples. Now a gentleman in Chardon, Ohio is crowdfunding his riff on the mouse and it’s on Kickstarter now.
Called the Mycestro, it is a 3D enabled mouse that mounts on your finger. It has a small touch panel on the side that replaces the typical three button layout of today’s computer mouse. As you watch creator Nick Mastandrea use the device in his video (above) it becomes clear how much faster this device is than a standalone mouse.
Since it can track your finger in 3D space, you can use it to expedite design in programs like Solidworks, which is demoed above. Mycestro is a truly amazing and innovative product.
3Doodler, The World’s First 3D Printing Pen
3D printing is a hot sector right now. Some pretty big minds think it will be the next big thing, and 3D printing projects have historically been pretty prevalent on Kickstarter. Now a pair of engineers based in Boston are crowdfunding a 3D printing PEN. Yes, you can now draw in 3D!
At the time of writing, this campaign has raised over $1.3 million with a lot of time left. It seems to hit a sweet spot at $75/pen. The campaign has sold preorders of well over 10,000 units!
One of the more innovative rewards used to fund the campaign was a collaboration with two popular wire artists on Etsy. Ruth Jensen and Bud Bullivant will use the pens to create rewards for a select group of early backers that got in before the reward level sold out.
This campaign is getting a lot of press and will likely make its way up the leaderboard of most funded Kickstarter campaigns.
