Finders Keepers is a documentary by Ed Cunningham, producer of the Oscar winning documentary Undefeated. The film follows the strange tale of Shannon Whisnant, a man who bought a smoker in a storage auction in 2007 and found a severed, mummified human leg in it.
That leg belonged to John Wood. He lost it in a plane crash. His father was also killed in the same incident. He had hung onto the leg as a sort of memorial of his father. When Wood lost his home, he decided to store the leg in the smoker in a storage locker. When he fell behind on payments the locker went to auction, where Whisnant purchased the contents.
What resulted was a custody battle over the leg, pitting Whisnant against Wood in a bizarre and sad story. The pitch video above gives a good outline of what one can expect from the film… tragedy and hardship pockmarked with the ridiculousness of the story itself. (The story is also rooted in Wood’s struggle with staying sober.)

Should we reach $80,000, we’ll be able to submit a solid cut of our movie to film festivals, which would be a dream come true.
If we can reach our fully-budgeted goal of $307,000, however, then we’ll be able to put together an actual film you can see, with quality visuals, audio, and (very importantly for me) capturing a lightning-in-a-bottle soundtrack that might truly express that ineffable Southern vibe.
