Turned Down by Dragon’s Den, Captive Media Points to Successful Raise on SyndicateRoom

Captive MediaCaptive Media provides the world’s first contact-free, washroom gaming and advertising system.  The product was first tested in late 2011 and subsequently profiled on the BBC’s website and shared over 30,000 times. Over the last 18 months, we have channeled this strong initial PR interest into a viable company with an advertising-led business proposition.

With growing traction and increasing orders from a number of pub chains and sporting venues Captive-Media are looking to accelerate their growth and have started to raise funds to do so.  While their novel idea has attracted a number of Angel Investors, the real worlds “Dragons”, the team at Captive-Media wanted to do something a bit different and have teamed up with SyndicateRoom to open the investment opportunity to the crowd.

Originally turned away by the Dragon’s on Dragon’s Den the entrepreneurs have persevered and are now offering equity on the SyndicateRoom.

“Everyone wants to invest in start-ups but not everyone possesses the skills needed to pick apart a business plan, value an unlisted company using multiples or comparables, and ensure that they are protected legally from being wrongfully diluted out of future profits when a larger investor comes in” quotes Goncalo de Vasconcelos, founder at SyndicateRoom.  “With SyndicateRoom we let the crowd invest alongside the Business Angels who are uncovering opportunities like Captive-Media” he adds.

The pre-money valuation is listed at £2,410,000.  The founders are offering up a 9.4% equity position on the company fro £250,000.  The offer is already 92% completed.

The lead investors are Peter Cowley and Mike Ullmann. Peter and Mike are highly successful angel investors who, between them, have invested in over 40 companies. Mike has invested in more than 15 start-ups, ranging from Top Table in the UK to Frog Pubs in France. Peter is one of the UK’s top angel investors, a board member of the Cambridge Angels and the Investment Director at Martlet – the Corporate Angel division of Marshall of Cambridge

Captive-Media offers the crowd tax relief through the Enterprise Investment Scheme (EIS), and the chance to invest in a company which may have been overlooked by the Dragon’s.
