A Statue of iconic scientist Nikola Tesla was crowdfunding on Kickstarter this past summer. The campaign closed having raised $127,260 on a goal of $123,000 with support from 722 backers.
Tesla was a visionary inventor who made countless discoveries and made significant contributions to AC current which is what most of us use every single day. He remains an inspiration to many and the team at Northern Imagination created a thoughtful and appropriate recognition for one of the greatest minds of the last century.
With the campaign completed and fully funded the statue was finally unveiled this past week

Thank you Kickstarter backers. It was an amazing project which will provide many stories for years to come. Nikola Tesla got some additional respect, more people learned about Nikola Tesla and there is a permanent source of inspiration to invention, entrepreneurship, creativity and big thinking on important topics like energy and wireless in the Silicon Valley (and a free Wi-Fi hotspot)!
Some people called this a project a bit crazy, and it was! But one of my favorite outcomes will be this text message exchange with my friend about his 8 year old daughter’s wish in the time capsule:
