Currently the most funded, active campaign on Kickstarter today, RPG Kingdom Come: Deliverance broke the $1 million mark (over £615,000) joining an elite crowdfunding group. With more than 2 weeks left in the campaign the game has the potential to go much further. Backers number almost 20,000 today as the game has proven to be an incredible success with the crowd.
The project was created by Warhorse Studios based in Prague, Czech Republic. The independent studio had approached big house publishers about doing the project but as negotiations dragged on – Warhorse became frustrated and decided to strike out on their own. A single investor told Warhorse if their crowdfunding campaign proved there was sufficient market interest by raising $500,000 then he would continue to support the project. Mission accomplished as they have already doubled that goal and current projections place the campaign achieving a considerably higher amount.
The medieval, open world, Braveheart type of game, previews stunning graphics and game play in their pitch video. An integrated first person fighter with a non-linear story has generated solid appeal in the gaming community. Publishers pushed Warhorse to create a free to play MMO but Warhorse pushing back – and going their own way- may have created a unique opportunity for this team.
Warhorse Studios is a new company but they are staffed by pros. Many were involved with successful games like Mafia, Mafia 2, ArmA, Operation Flashpoint,Crysis 3, and Forza Horizon and more. Staff today numbers around 35 but they intend to grow their forces to around 75 to complete the game.
Backer levels to receive a digital copy of the game start at £15. Estimated delivery is December 2015. Warhorse has set up a forum for gamers to discuss the forthcoming game on their site (which were down at the time of writing). Campaign will close on Kickstarter on February 20th.
