With Roots In Occupy Movement, Loomio On Its Way To Being Crowdfunded

A decision-making platform with roots in the Occupy Movement is being crowdfunded on Crowdtilt right now, and it just closed out a great first week of funding. The campaign raised over $34,000 and has a good head start toward a $100,000 goal.

So what is Loomio? Loomio promises to be a platform that acts to facilitate the discussion and eventual adoption of ideas. Individuals can submit proposals and others can then vote to agree, disagree, abstain or block. The platform facilitates discussion around proposals until eventually a solution is settled upon. A more detailed description is available on the Loomio blog.

The internet has made it so easy to talk to each other, but there’s no easy way to make decisions together online. Loomio bridges that gap, providing space for people to come together and talk things through, hear all perspectives, and reach clear outcomes. It’s like a missing piece of the internet, and we need your support to build it.

The crowdfunding campaign seeks to fund a first go at a Loomio application. A beta has been in use by various individuals and organizations, and the team can already boast some pretty impressive kudos…

If the campaign can manage to raise $252,108, Callaghan Innovation has promised a grant that will further amplify the Loomio team’s efforts. It’s a flexible funding campaign, so the team is going to net some cash no matter what.
