The Omni by Virtuix launched an incredibly successful crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter last year. The project raised over $1.1 million as the future of virtual reality gaming came one step closer. The hardware paired with the Oculus Rift allows gamers to enter a virtual, 360 degree world to play games in a realistic fashion that previously did not exist.
Over 3200 backers supported the project on Kickstarter, while some of the early backers have already received their Omni’s some the shipping for others has been pushed back to July.
The Omni is designed to be paired with the Oculus headset. Apparently there has been no mention as to how the acquisition by Facebook will impact Omni but at least one backer has requested comment from Virtuix on just that.
For pre-orders, scheduled to ship this coming September, two packages are available: A single Omni will cost$499 and a pair will set you back $1019. Special shoes included but the Oculus must be ordered separately. Shipping is extra.
