Update: Tens Sunglasses Scores Over £210,000 on Crowdfunding Campaign

Tens

Just a little over a week since the launch of its crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo, Tens sunglasses has managed to receive over £213,000 (about $360,000) from over 5,200 backers. The company originally set out with a goal of only  £9,400 and within a couple days scored well over £100,000. Their sunglasses, described as “the real life photo filter”, have caught the eye of thousands.

As previously noted by Crowdfund Insider, Tens sunglasses feature UV400 protection, which will block out 100% of the sun’s harmful rays. It is also created from a CR-39 plastic polymer and the lens is scratch resistant.

According to its campaign site, “Tens is defined by the idea of filtering the things you see through our custom sense-heightening lens tint. Whilst typical sunglasses block out the light with desaturation, color colors; Tens work with the warmth of the sun to lend an up-lifting tint to the world beyond the lens.”

Sharing details about the sunglasses three-year production, Tens co-founder and director Marty Bell noted, “We focused predominantly on the way the bright sunlight was filtered – paying close attention to filling highlight colors with subtle [yellow and oranges], adding saturation in the greens and blues, particularly the sky tone. In unison this color boosts the saturation of what the wearer sees whilst blocking out harming rays.”

Shortly after the campaign launch, funds from all over the world began to Tenspour in. Co-founder Tom Welsh stated, “It seems there are thousands of people that wan these sunglasses. We thought if we made £10,000 it would be enough to start a business to fill our spare time, then after the first day we’d made nearly triple of that.

“A couple weeks ago we all moved into a flat together to put our heads into the same space. We set our living room up as an office, and at the moment we all just sit at our desk and look at every so often in disbelief at the total amount of funding. We currently have 2,400 customers and while the funding onslaught will die down eventually, we’ve still got 26 days to go. That’s the challenge: what the hell do we do next? But we’re definitely not taking our foot off the gas now.”

Tens’ campaign is set to close on June 6th.
