GIROPTIC today announced that the Kickstarter campaign for 360cam, its innovative 360º, high-definition camera, has raised more than $1,000,000 in less than 30 days and from more than 3,000 backers. After reaching its initial goal of $150,000 in the first 24 hours, the 360cam is now one of the two top most funded tech campaigns in Kickstarter to come from France, and it still has more than two weeks left before its crowdfunding campaign ends.
Founder of GIROPTIC Richard Ollier stated, “I’d like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who has supported our project. We have been blown away by the enthusiasm and are eager to start helping people explore the world around them.”
The 360cams technology is a new way of capturing, broadcasting and enjoying videos. The device is an oblong-shaped design that is no bigger than a large egg. The camera features three 185-degree lenses that overlap, capturing the full field of view. Once captured, the images are processed on the internal processors in real-time, and are stitched together by way of GIROPTICs proprietary, patent-pending technology.
The new 360cam is the first camera able to take true, high-definition, 360-degree photographs and videos, which can be shared using a number of todays applications. The 360cam has been in development for more than two years, and will ship to early Kickstarter backers end of the year 2014.
The GIROPTIC team includes some of Frances most innovative and experienced entrepreneurs, its foremost camera electronics engineer, and industrial designer who joined forces more than one year ago to pursue this vision. The team spent over two years planning and preparing for the launch of the 360cam and has been thrilled by its reception in countries around the world. The 360cam was a popular news topic from the US to Japan, creating a new conversation about videography and photography.
With 18 days left until the campaign closes, the 360cam has raised $1,037,696 from 2,999 backers.
