Setting out to bring the most comfortable shoe to the market, Unbelievable Testing Laboratory has managed to raise $112,951 from 1648 backers during THE NINJA’s crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter. The company originally set out to raise $15,000 for the new line, which is noted as “impossibly light microfiber footwear.”
According to its campaign website, Unbelievable Testing Laboratory has created microfiber shoes that weigh at less than 130g. This footwear company is known to create “awesome shoes out of cutting edge materials, uses advanced designed processes, and ultra lean production methods.”
Unbelievable Testing Laboratory noted that THE NINJA was the first time the company scientifically approached the footwear design by:
- Identify a problem
- Develop a challenge
- Rapid prototyping and small batch testing
- Demand-drive go-to-market strategy
During the prototype period, Unbelieable Testing Laboratory was able to study everything from the number of stitches to patterns cut, mold sets, adhesive used, and materials required.
Explaining the incredible campaign on the crowdfunding giant, co-founder of Unbelievable Testing Laboratory, Token Hu, told YankoDesign, “Hu explains, “As we wrapped up that first Kickstarter and were entering into the fulfillment stage, we began to spend a lot of time in the factory. We were overseeing how the shoes were being made; making sure that everything went smoothly. In doing so, we realized that our manufacturing process was incredibly complicated.
“There were dozens of parts that underwent a myriad of steps. The materials were getting transferred between a variety of machines, undergoing hand stitching and being pressed and molded in order for them to take shape. The manufacturing process for our minimalist shoe was anything but.”
The campaign is set to close on July 2nd.
