USB cords… need I say more? Never mind spending money on overpriced restaurants and night’s out, the majority of my cash goes to constantly purchasing a new USB cord whenever my nearly six month old cord finally bites the dust. But now Chapel Hill-based Made in College is ready to put an end to that problem.
The company launched a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign on Wednesday, September 3rd, to raise only $4,0000 for its reversible USB charging cords for iPhones and virtually any other electronic, the BelayCords. Within in about two weeks, the project has reached well over its original goal and raised over $120,000 all thanks to more than 2600 backers.
BelayCords are considered more durable than any other USB cord and is the “first” iPhone charging cord with reversible USB technology. General charging cord problems are that they break, the connections that wear out cause an on-again/off-again charging, and they only work in one orientation. The BelayCords are here to correct these errors.
The BelayCords’ team stated, “We’re working with the only reversible USB patent holder to make the first and only iPhone USB Lightning cable that works in any orientation. That means when you try to plug it in, you get it correctly the first time, every time.”
Sharing details about its strength and durability, the team noted that they are only using high quality materials and are reinforcing BelayCords from the ground up. They are even offering a lifetime guarantee, which means the cords will be the last cable anyone will ever have to buy.
Also discussing its unique design, the team wrote, “We created BelayCords in a variety of colors that ‘pop.’ Inspired by climbing rope, BelayCords has a rugged fabric exterior, protecting the charging components from wear and helping to keep them tangle free. In regards to where everyone will be seeing the cords, the team wrote, “Our dream is to tell BelayCords in every Apple store. Inevitably the price will have to be more expensive than this Kickstarter run. We’re planning the MSRP to be $39.95 per BelayCords charger. This will cover MFI licensing, Barcode Labeling, manufacturing, shipping, fulfillment, legal and more.”
BelayCords’ crowdfunding campaign is set to close on November 2nd.
